On the 24th of August 2019 the 6th National Senior Parade and Generations Picnic will take place in Warsaw. This Saturday seniors from all over Poland will walk towards the main campus of the University of Warsaw to refute age stereotypes and prove that everyone can be active. One of the attractions will be the MultiSport Senior educational and sports zone, where participants of the event will be able to learn how to exercise after 60 to stay healthy and fit for years.
Colourful, Mature and Wonderful – this is how you can describe seniors coming from different Polish cities who will meet by the palm tree on the Charles de Gaulle Roundabout this Saturday at 12:00. A colourful march towards the campus of the University of Warsaw in Krakowskie Przedmieście will end with the Generations Picnic, during which participants will have the opportunity to take part in many workshops, discussion panels and intergenerational dance party led by the legendary DJ Wika. Krzysztof Krawczyk will also be the star of this year's parade.
– “Mature and Wonderful” Senior Parade is a fantastic celebration of the elderly, the only event on this scale in the world.Over 10,000 active seniors will come out on the streets of Warsaw and will manifest their diversity. The parade consolidates the positive image of the growing community of seniors, encourages active life, breaks down harmful stereotypes. This year the parade will be even louder and more colourful, which is possible thanks to thousands of participants from all over the country, but also to our partners – says Przemysław Wiśniewski from the “Zaczyn” Foundation, the organiser of the Senior Parade.
Active senior zone
During the picnic there will be attractions for both active seniors and those who would like to start their adventure with physical activity. The MultiSport Senior zone programme will include free measurements of body composition along with health consultations. There will be also physiotherapists and personal trainers waiting for seniors who will tell them how to exercise properly to maintain health and well-being for years. Physical activation of seniors is an extremely important social issue – Polish Statistics (GUS) forecasts indicate that in 2050 40% of Poles will be in their sixties while according to the latest MultiSport Index 2019 report, more than half of Poles over 55 do not engage in any physical activity, including, for example, walking.
